Calcot Cottage was set up in 1990 and provides a safe, loving environment for up to 4 children and young people aged between 5 and 18 on admission on a fifty two week basis.

Calcot Cottage is run by a compassionate, committed team of staff on therapeutic community principles in conjunction with a range of methods that includes the use of restorative justice methods, direct work about such topics as keeping safe, life story work, counselling and reward/incentive systems. We can provide State of Mind assessment, psychotherapy and counselling where appropriate. Ultimately, external professionals work closely with staff to inform each other’s practice. Our home is a beautiful, modernised 17th century building set in a quarter of an acre of grounds just outside Reading and close to all amenities.

The Dingles

The Dingles community was registered in 2003 as a response to a need for further places for children aged between 5 and 18 on admission and has fully developed its own individuality and special character.

In recognising that each child has their individual needs, we seek to carry out assessments that identify the most suitable form of therapy whilst considering the child's current stage of development, their views and wishes and those of their families and the referring authority. Therefore each child or young person will have their own unique program of support. This includes Lifestory work, direct work, external pyschotherapy and age appropriate independence work which is planned individually for each child or young person. Our team work hard to provide our young people with unconditional care and appropriate incentive and reward systems to assist them in working through difficulties and emotions safely and within set boundaries.

We are a strong, committed and creative staff team and we strive to improve the circumstances of our children and young people and to ensure success for them in the future.

The Dingles is a beautifully modernised house that provides a safe environment for up to three children. The Dingles is situated in the South of Reading close to all amenities.

Yew Tree Cottage

Neighbouring Yew Tree Cottage provides a supported living option for young people preparing to leave care, who have already acquired some life skills but require additional input and support to prepare them for full independence.

These may include issues such as budgeting, carrying out household tasks, meal preparation, liaising with professionals, accessing housing, improving employability, etc. A dedicated and creative staff team are on hand to offer appropriate advice and guidance, based on assessed needs, to enable the individual young person to gain or improve existing practical skills and promote confidence in their abilities to live independently when the time comes to live in the wider community.

Yew Tree is staffed every night and for certain hours during the day. However, young people have emergency access to staff should they need it.

16+ Supported Living Service

Opened in November 2014, our 16+ service provides sole occupancy accommodation for young people aged 16 and above who are able to live independently with support.

Our 16+ Supported Living Service was set up as a response to local need for high quality, registered and regulated care for young people aged 16 and over. Registered with CQC we have a number of 1 bed properties across Berkshire where young people reside with a tailor made package of support dependent on their needs. Calcot Services for Children employ a team of Project Workers who support the young people in our 16+ service to develop their skills in areas such as budgeting, cooking, home maintenance, accessing employment or training etc.

Our 16+ service is available for internal referrals of young people transitioning from our main homes or Yew Tree Cottage, and also external referrals for suitable young people.

We work within the same caring, empathic ethos that runs through all of our homes and provide a dedicated, reliable and honest team of Project Workers to support each and every young person to reach their full potential.
